Without good there can be and evil. The same way that without conflict there could no resolution.

Communication/Theater Connection

Screen Time
Hours spent in front of your computer, video monitor, cell phone, and hand held. Multitasking is standard. Communities have been replaced by demographics. Silence has been replaced by background noise. Its a different world.

Connection?!? Why and to what……

My ensemble theater class and I have created “PS: Somewhere” a play on a nations values and its affect on a generation. I found that has a society we are aware of what the problem is but we are so dazed by the method of communication that we give in to the entertainment of it. PS: Somewhere addresses the question: What effects you and what do you plan to do about it?

Personally my studies in theater and public communication have formed my critical analysis of theater as a form of social awareness.

“Social Awareness, Social Justice, Social Change”

P.S. somewhere…….

So we are upon a new journey and I am so excited to be imersed into a new story and a new lesson to tell. P.S. somewhere is what i would call the day in the life of every school kid. We tackle it all which is an amazing journey all in itself. We tell the real story of everyday people growing up in a school system they either respect, dont respest, understand or dont understand.

What I am loving about this process is the art of collabration. I am learning how to use my technique to blend well with others while using my art of creating stories. I feel like I have found excatly what I want to do for the rest of my life. I have found purpose and passion in this and Im so happy about it.

Three universals.

I learned something valueable today from a very wise and true man. Today i learned that many scared texts propose three common ideas. These three ideas are

1. Don’t kill eachother

2. We are all connected

3. What you put into the earth you get back

I have never looked that such meaningful statements in such scared entities which for me makes them that much more meaningful and that much more real.

Just think about it.

Where are you suppose to be? EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE!

Showings

Yesterday we had our first showing of what will be a piece titled “Our shared humanity” and might i comment: it was really good! We had a few bumps we needed to iron out but that’s what this process is all about.

In this process we first began with the articles we looked up that defined what we thought defined our shared humanity. After that we were put into groups of two and I got paired up with tie. We met up and began having a difficult time combining our two pieces. It was hard because we kept making things complicated and difficult to understand. As we struggled and struggled we finally came to the realization that in order to get our story and message across we had to have simplicity. Once we made that realization everything just fell into place.

In our piece tie and I decided that we would focus on the raw facts and numbers. We wanted to get “down and dirty” so, we used facts and presented them in personal testimonies.

When we got to class and presented and got to watch the other presentations I was blown away. I was blown away because here we were taking articles, poems, songs and pictures to create stories and the stories were so powerful.

In this class I am learning that

-stories are powerful if done right

-there’s no need to complicate things

-trust in your training

-always fully commit.

I love Rwanda, I love Rwandans, and I love people who love Rwanda.

Iraq. When i used to think of Iraq i thought of the war and how many Americans were dying. Then I opened my eyes and started to really see the world.

Did you know that not only did they fight a war with us, USA, but they are also fighting themselves. People are killing each other and I cant understand why. I often sit and wonder why civilizations chose mutiny over tranquility. Then after the storm settles they beg for recovery.

Why must we fight each other?

I can only think of one justification whether it may be right or wrong.

We have so many WALLS………..

Aritcle/ Incident #1

Shocking Gay Honor Killing Inspires Movie- an article I found online at http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/13/world/europe/turkey-gay-killing/index.html?hpt=wo_mid

This article is about a 26 year old turkish homosexual male that was murdered by his very own father for being gay. Turkey, where the victim ”Ahmet Yildiz” is from, has a homophobic society according to the report. This incident happened in 2009 and is coming to light because the friends of Ahmet have created and directed a movie entitled “Zenne”, meaning male belly dancer, which is set to debut in Turkey this Friday.

I became really insterested in this article because of the efforts to tell Ahmet Yildiz’s story. His friends have co produced and directed a movie to tell Ahmet’s story. I think its amazing that these two men have choosen to stand up and change the world by opening their worlds to an issue that the whole world is going through.

First day of classes

So great news I just came from Papa Drew’s class and he gave us the opportunity to have a blog as our personal journals during the journey of our Ensemble theater class! I am very excited about this because it allows me to keep reliving Rwanda and its stories, ideals, lessons and joys. I believe that this class is directly tied to Rwanda and I’ll be showcasing how. This blog will now be my Rwandan-American connection.

So today Drew gave us the opportunity to share stories and just relax on our first day which I really appreciated. We got to share more and see each other. He also gave us homework of course! Gotta love him for that one but the homework sounds great so I’m happy for it. So for our homework we have to find two incidences that we believe are tied to the theme of “our shared humanity” and discuss them after we must come up with a pose to express what we feel. I’m continuing my process and I’m happy about it!

It took leaving home to find a home
